1. The 5-Step Method is a simple, brief, semi-structured psychosocial intervention that helps family members affected by a loved one’s addiction problem. It is one of the few interventions that support Affected Family Members s in their own right rather than viewing them as primary supporters of their loved one’s treatment. The 5SM can be carried out by trained practitioners/lay people and is delivered with individuals, couples or in groups. The Workshop will give a good understanding of the method, the evidence base, some practical exercises and information on further training and accreditation.
See the website for further information. http://afinetwork.info/5-step-method-resources-introduction
2. Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) is a structured intervention for concerned significant others (CSOs) of individuals with addictive disorders ("Identified Patients", IP) aiming to promote the well-being of family members and improve their coping behaviour in order to promote treatment entry by the IP. Among other techniques, CSOs are taught to use operant conditioning mechanisms in order to discourage using the behaviour of the IP and to reinforce healthy, non-using behaviour. This Workshop will present the basic principles of CRAFT and is open to everyone working with family members affected by an addictive disorder of someone close to them.
