Interests: Main focus of my research is on alcohol use disorders, family members affected by addiction, internet use disorders, and gambling disorder. My research covers prevalence of disorders, comorbidity, brief and early interventions, and impact of addiction on individuals, based on quantitative and qualitative study designs.

Biography:

While studying German literature and history in Heidelberg and Hamburg, I started 1998 as a student worker in  addiction research in psychiatry. Since 2009, I work as a researcher in the research group S:TEP (Substance abuse and related disorders: Therapy, Epidemiology, and Prevention) at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Lübeck. During my PhD in German literature (2012), I started studying Public Health at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg and received my Master in 2014. I have worked in various studies on family members covering burden, barriers to treatment, and interventions.

I am a member of the steering committees of the German Society for Addiction Research and Therapy and of the North German Addiction Research Network. I am a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) and the International Network on Brief Interventions for Alcohol and other drugs (INEBRIA).
