Dear AFINet members and friends,

Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we as a Board of Trustees have taken the extremely difficult decision to postpone the second AFINet conference scheduled for 9-11 September 2020 in Rotterdam. Maybe the world will look different in September, but we think it's unlikely that people will be able to submit abstracts before May 1st. We also very much appreciate that members and colleagues from around the world will not be able to commit to making travel arrangements to be able to attend. It will therefore be difficult to put together a nice programme. And we recognise that for many of us, there will be more important things to think about than attending a Conference.

We are very committed to re-arranging this 2nd AFINet Conference, but we have to wait and see how things will develop. We hope to be able to announce a new conference date as soon as possible.

We hope you understand our decision and that we will see each other in 2021!

The details below are what we had planned but we will update you on what the new plan is soon.

May you all stay safe and healthy,

We are proud to announce that AFINet is holding its second International Conference in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, 9-11 September 2020. Please see the flyer (link below). We very much hope that you will be able to attend.

  • Sept. 9-11 2020, Rotterdam
  • Location:
    Hogeschool Rotterdam,
    Museumpark 40, Rotterdam,
    The Netherlands

If you would like to present at this conference on a topic related to Addiction and the Family, please
submit an abstract by 1 May.

The conference is free to students, those from LMICs (Low or Middle Income Countries,
as defined by the World Bank), and those who have no other source of funding (such as retirees, those with no institutional support, or NGO’s with little or no money for conferences).

There are also a limited number of bursaries for people in these categories (see Registration Form).

5-Step Method
Some people have told us that they would like the opportunity to receive some training in the 5-Step Method immediately before or after the conference. We need to understand how much interest there is, in order to decide whether to put on training. If there is sufficient interest, we might put on a 1-day briefing or a 2.5 day skills training.

We would need to charge separately for these courses (see Registration Form). Please show on the Registration Form if you are interested in either or both.

Due to support from the City of Rotterdam, up to 500 euro contribution towards travel, accommodation and subsistence will be available for delegates who are students, from low and middle income countries, or for those who have no other source of funding (such as retirees, those with no institutional support, or NGO’s with little or no money for conferences). If you wish to apply for a bursary, please complete the relevant section in the Registration Form.

Information on the preliminary programme, speakers, travel and accommodation information will be published and regularly updated on the AFINet-website.
